Traditional Soft Spiles – Natural Cane
Our traditional soft spiles are an essential tool for cask ale and real ale cellar management. Made from natural cane, these porous pegs gently vent excess carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the cask during conditioning and service, helping maintain the natural carbonation, flavour and clarity of your ale.
Inserted into the cask shive once the cask has been tapped, soft spiles allow controlled gas release during conditioning, helping to reduce excess pressure and prevent over-conditioning or fobbing. Once the beer has settled and reached the desired condition, the soft spile can be replaced with a hard spile to help retain carbonation.
